Fondazione Cassa dei Risparmi di Forlì presents in 2026 the exhibition Baroque. The Grand Theater of Ideas, dedicated to Baroque art and culture. The exhibition aims to provide a comprehensive overview of the Baroque period by exploring its origins, leading figures, the role of patronage, and the relationship between art, power, faith, and society. Starting from Rome, the birthplace of the movement, the exhibition also examines the spread of Baroque language across the European courts of the seventeenth century.
The exhibition investigates the cultural roots of the Baroque, from Hellenistic models and late Mannerism to the influence of Caravaggio, while also addressing the twentieth-century critical reappraisal that redefined the movement as a period of extraordinary artistic and cultural complexity.
From February 21 to June 28, 2026, the Museo Civico San Domenico will host more than 200 works from major Italian and international institutions, including a special collaboration with the National Galleries of Ancient Art. Divided into twelve sections, the exhibition is curated by a team of scholars led by Cristina Acidini and will be staged within the Church of San Giacomo and the former convent library spaces.
