The exhibition dedicated to Mario Schifano, curated by Daniela Lancioni, celebrates one of the most important figures in contemporary Italian art and is part of the program promoted by Palazzo Esposizioni to highlight the visual culture of postwar Rome. Featuring more than one hundred works from Italian and international collections, the exhibition traces the artist’s career chronologically, from his early works to the 1990s.
The exhibition explores Schifano’s major artistic innovations: from material experimentation and monochromes to the use of photography and references to art history, as well as television landscapes, cinema, and socially engaged works. It also emphasizes his constant ability to reinvent painting through a wide variety of techniques and visual languages.
Alongside the paintings, the exhibition includes a film program dedicated to Schifano’s cinema, as well as a catalog published by Electa featuring essays by contemporary art historians and scholars. The project is further enriched by educational activities and an extensive public program designed for a diverse audience.
