The Museo de Arte Contemporáneo Atchugarry (MACA) presents Lucio Fontana: Genio de Dos Mundos, the first exhibition dedicated to the artist in Uruguay. This significant cultural event offers a special opportunity to explore the work of an artist who transformed the history of modern and contemporary art.
Lucio Fontana (1899–1968) was born in Rosario de Santa Fe and trained in Argentina and Italy. He was an artist who transcended borders and disciplines. His work introduced a new concept of space in art, challenging the traditional boundaries of sculpture and painting, and bringing about a profound transformation in 20th century artistic practices. Curated by Fontana specialist Luca Massimo Barbero, the exhibition brings together 72 pieces, including ceramics, sculptures, drawings and canvases, to trace the different stages of Fontana’s career, from his early sculptures and ceramics to his renowned Concetti spaziali, in which matter, light and emptiness converge to create a radically new language.
