

Gianni Caravaggio (Rocca San Giovanni, Chieti, 1968) lives and works in Milan and Sindelfingen (Germany), where he grew up until 1990. After studying philosophy at the Universities of Florence, Milan, and Stuttgart, he graduated from the Brera Academy of Fine Arts in 1994, where he currently teaches sculpture. In 1997 he held his first solo exhibition at Casa degli Artisti, Milan, curated by Jole de Sanna, Hidetoshi Nagasawa, and Luciano Fabro. In 1999, he took part in the Fondazione Ratti workshop, Como, with visiting professor Haim Steinbach. Among the institutional exhibitions dedicated to him are: Castello di Rivoli, Rivoli (2006); Scenario, Collezione Maramotti, Reggio Emilia (2008); Enfine seul – finalmente solo – alone at last, Musée d’Art Moderne et Contemporain, Saint-Étienne and MAGA, Gallarate (2014); Iniziare un tempo, Museo Novecento, Florence (2018); When Nature was Young, Kunstmuseum Reutlingen/Konkret, Reutlingen (2021); Per analogiam, GAM, Turin (2023), curated by Elena Volpato.
He has participated in numerous national and international group exhibitions, at Castello di Rivoli, at Lenbachhaus in Munich at Moscow Biennale (2005) and at Izmir Triennale (2010). In 2011, together with philosopher Federico Ferrari, he co-conceived the thought/exhibition Arte Essenziale held at Collezione Maramotti, Reggio Emilia and at Kunstverein, Frankfurt. Throughout his career, he has received numerous awards: Premio Fondo Speciale PS1 Italian Studio Program, New York (2002); Borsa per Giovani Artisti Italiani, promoted by the Amici Sostenitori del Castello di Rivoli (2005); Premio Allinovi, Florence (2005); Premio ACACIA, Milan (2013).
